Agency News

August 2021

Hello Friends!

We are so excited for the school year to begin right around the corner! Our team can't wait to be making new matches with students, begin visiting our site programs, and seeing matches on a regular basis. We're also gearing up for a couple of exciting events - the Rodman Ride for Kids and The Big Celebration. Read more about those below!

If you've been on our website at all, you may have noticed a face-lift! We recently re-designed our website to make it more user friendly and filled with more content. Check out the new site here. New to the website is our blog section which will be updated regularly.

Thank you for taking the time to read our August newsletter and for standing with us to defend the potential of over 1,000 children!

Sincerely,
The Team at Big Brothers Big Sisters

Program Highlight

Our matches have been keeping busy this Summer! On July 24th we hosted a Summer Party at the Hopkinton YMCA for all our matches to attend. Matches did a scavenger hunt, get-to-know you Bingo, corn-hole, a MYSTEAM activity, painting, and so much more. A highlight of the day was our first-ever fashion show where Bigs and Littles competed to create the best outfit using wrapping paper and tape. It made for some great laughs! We also enjoyed celebrating the high school Seniors who graduated from the Mazie Mentoring Program in the Spring.

Coming up we are hosting several outdoor activities in the month of August. Check-out our list of upcoming activities below:

  • August 17 - Skate or Ride at the Hopkinton Rail Trail
  • August 18 - Kayak Lesson at Regatta Point
  • August 23 - Bike ride at the Rutland Rail Trail
  • August 24 - Dance session with Masielle from Ritmos Dance Studio
  • August 26 - Wachusett Mountain Evening Hike (3 miles)
  • August 30 - Yoga with Gabrielle
  • August 21 - Watatic Evening Hike (2 miles)

Match Spotlight

This month we'd like to highlight one amazing match! We're excited to introduce you to Kiersten and her mentee, Victoria. Kiersten and Victoria are part of our Mazie Mentoring Program out of Framingham High School.  The two have been matched for over a year. They love spending time together by going for walks and taking in the nature. Victoria is an incoming senior at Framingham High School and will begin the college search and application process soon! Victoria is interested in a healthcare career and more recently has been in search of a potential internship in the field. We are thankful to have these two wonderful people be a part of our Mazie family! Below is a photo of Victoria and Kiersten at our summer get together.

Stand With Us Today to Defend Potential

When children and teens have the influence of a caring adult, they are more likely to avoid risky behaviors and to focus on academics. Today's youth face a variety of challenges, and being matched with a Big Brother or Big Sister can help them navigate these challenges and reach their potential.
